A truly Old School experience: the Sleeper 6-Cylinder Porsche VW Bus


Typ901 is offering this exceptional and rare 1971 Volkswagen T2A equipped with the mythical Porsche 911 flat six engine. An Old School spiced-up VW Bus, matched with the period correct Porsche engine combination, its contemporary 6 cylinder boxer from the 911.

The metal body in this time capsule is in an outstanding, exceptional condition. No rust, still some original factory paint! Straight body with no filler, no accidents nor repairs. A rare unit with its core fantastically preserved through its 50+ years of life.

This VW Bus was delivered and registered in California in early 1970, the time of the Porsche 911 2.2 T, E and S.
Right after delivery, the mutation into Old School Sleeper took place.
Its meager 4 cylinder 1.6 liters engine with 48 HP was removed, and instead the VW received the powerful soul of the 6 cylinder power unit, period correct 911 T.
To tune things up, this flat six engine got an increased displacement from 2.2 to 2.4 liters, connected to 2x sets of Webers to deliver 130 beefy HP, ready to enjoy the open Californian lifestyle, with plenty of room inside and the amazing Porsche 911 flat six engine sound and power.


It sports a brand new 0 Km custom-made, 4-speed manual gearbox from Rancho Transaxles, with specific 4th gear ratio (overdrive) for Autobahn cruising. The gearbox was designed and reinforced to comply with the specific power and torque demands.

The engine and gearbox are currently out of the body to allow thorough inspection.
With just a mechanical freshen-up, this 1971 VW Bus can be driven as it is, preserving its patina or it can be fully restored, even tunned further. It is a phenomenal base for a truly Old School Sleeper, Restomod project, Rat, California look, Sport Rennen Replica, etc.

This unit is stored in Typ901 installations in Barcelona. Typ901 brings back to life classic Porsche using the same expert techniques as they used to use back in the past in Stuttgart.
